Welcome (to) Rogue Rogue!
Oh, hi! I'm KesieV and I work on misc open-source pet projects on my lunch breaks and spare time. I'm not used to releasing my little works on itch.io - I just did a single experiment a few years ago - but I decided to attempt again with Rogue Rogue because, as a platform customer I think that this game may fit some tastes here.
The week before the release date of the game I used to publish short tweets about the game features - the game looks and plays like your regular Bubble Bobble clone but most of the distinctive parts are hidden on purpose, even the fact that's a roguelite game!
I don't have a great following and I don't want that information to be lost so... I'm leaving them here too!
I used to play and love Bubble Bobble on my Commodore 64 as a kid. As a teenager, I found the original one at a small arcade in Sicily and It blasted me with its colors and pace.
They became a symbol for me: the Commodore 64 version for the slow, warm comfort of home, and the arcade one for the fast-paced thrill of growing up.
I'm 40+ now and things got faster, chaotic, challenging, and unknown. I'm a humble hobby game developer and I needed a new game.
That's why I've started Rogue Rogue.
The Rogue Rogue Rug and Rog have fixed jump height as the original game but they move more easily and fire up and down. There are 20+ stage generator configurations built studying the first Bubble Bobble stage design that mixes procedural generation with handcrafted parts.
And the game sticks to an 8-colors palette to give an arcade port feel!
We'll talk about secrets and cultural influences next time!
